The development of Code Breaker is started
Back in January, I bought GameMaker: Studio Pro from YoYo Games. During the following month, I did a few tutorials to understand the language mechanic and its particularities. Due to my full-time job, the only time I have to spend on this project is during evenings and weekends that are making progress slower than if I could work on it full time.
At the beginning of March, I started the development of Code Breaker and today, even with my limited time, it is already well on its way. The idea was to start with something small to allow me to understand what is required to publish a game today. Things have changed a lot since the 80’s and 90’s and, even though some aspects might be easier, there is much more to know today than there was at the time. For example, today, your game needs to adapt to different devices’ resolutions, orientations and other devices’ particularities. Not to mention the different platforms that have different requirements such as Windows, Apple, Android, etc.
By starting with something small, it gives me a chance to ramp up on all the required knowledge instead of spending all my time on the code. Code Breaker is a simple code-breaking game inspired by the classic MasterMind™ board game, so I did not have to invent anything, and the game implementation is simple enough.
At this point, I have a working prototype that I’m able to play. That part was not too hard but, now, I have to build everything around it such as menus, options, difficulty levels, logos, etc. and most importantly, I have to polish it. That seems simple, but this is the longest part.
Stay tuned as I will post more update during the development process.
